South Asian Youth Speak-Out!

The main objective to inspire youth to prevent gender-based violence in their lives and to increase awareness of the issues that are specific to the South Asian comunity and to amplify community capacity to respond to violence.

8 South Asian youth from the diverse South Asian community in York Region were trained on healthy relationships and dating violence, anti-oppression, and stalking.

The youth, who are now qualified Peer-Facilitators, developed their own youth-appropriate workshops with the assistance of the project coordinator for South Asian youth in York Region.

The Peer Facilitators have delivered various workshops to 150 South Asian youth (from April to October 2009) in middle and high schools, and worship places in York Region.
