South Asian Adult Day Program
The Central Local Health Integration Network (CLHIN) has approved a South Asian Adult Day Program, through their Aging at Home Strategy. This is a partnership program between Unionville Home Society and Social Services Network. The South Asian Adult Day Program will deliver an integrated (cognitive/frail elderly) ethno-specific program in a culturally and linguistically sensitive manner. It will take place two days per week (Saturdays and Sundays) at Unionville Home Society, in Markham and will be delivered by staff speaking Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati and Tamil. 15 seniors per day will attend from the diverse South Asian community. Transportation, breakfast, lunch and a light snack will be provided. The program will establish a best practice model to serve diverse ethno-specific communities in Ontario. The program will consist of: - Information on prevention and wellness philosophies
- Equitable access to care in a safe environment to enable improved supports
- Enjoyable information and activities, including the opportunity for socialization and peer support
- Information to enhance or maintain a level of independence, including grooming and self-care
- Provide a break (respite) to the caregiver while providing health services, therapeutic services and social activities for people with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia, chronic illnesses, traumatic brain injuries, development disabilities, and other problems that increase their care needs.
- Provide a safe, secure environment in which to spend the day including recreation in a culturally sensitive manner
