Engaging and Educating the South Asian community about Children’s Mental Health. Materials are available in EnglishGujaratiHindiTamil  and Punjabi


This innovative project provides a proactive approach to diabetes and chronic disease management in South Asian and Chinese  individuals and families at risk for and/or living with diabetes and other chronic diseases such as cardiac illnesses.


 

This project consists of a series of courses for parents and grandparents in the GTA's many multicultural, multilingual communities.

Aim: To increase awareness of the rich cultural diversity of the South Asian community, for both the mainstream human services sector and the SouthAsian community itself.

Outreach and connections within the South Asian community project is to ensure better access to culturally and linguistically sensitive services and supports that promote better health.


 

Decrease isolation and increase access to services, eg. Community gardening


The Central Local Health Integration Network (CLHIN) has approved aSouth Asian Adult Day Program, through their Aging at Home Strategy.

This is a partnership program between Unionville Home Society and Social Services Network.

The South Asian Adult Day Program will deliver an integrated(cognitive/frail elderly) ethno-specific program in a culturally andlinguistically sensitive manner. It will take place two days per week(Saturdays and Sundays) at Unionville Home Society, in Markham and willbe delivered by staff speaking Hindi, Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati and Tamil.


Accessibility for Ontarians With Disability Act, 2005 - Accessibility Customer Service Standards

Aim: To assist the South Asian social services sector and faith groups to comply with the customer services standards by disseminating educational tools and resources.

Raise Awareness of Domestic Violence and Abuse through information and support groups held in Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil, Urdu and Gujarati


The main purpose of the project is to encourage and enable South Asian seniors and youth to exchange experiences, skills, resources and wisdom through planning, developing, and executing various intergenerational activities.
