Job Description (Coordinator - Youth Programs)


SUMMARY OF POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:


The Social Services Network delivers culturally and linguistically appropriate services to the diverse South Asian communities in York Region.  An integral component of our work is the delivery of direct services and programs to the underserved South Asian youth and their families in York Region. We are looking for an energetic, responsible and skilled individual to serve in the full-time position of Coordinator Youth Programs.

 

The Coordinator of Youth Programs will oversee general youth programming at SSN and  will work specifically on a project funded by the Status of Women Canada(SWC) entitled Building a Safe Community for Us: South Asian Girls, Teens and Young Women Strategize for Change.

GENERAL DUTIES:

•1.       Work closely with the SWC's Project Manager to ensure that all project activities are carried out and deliverables completed in accordance to the project's work-plan.

•2.       Provides administrative support, supervision and evaluation to all outreach staff, team leaders and volunteers in the area of youth engagement.

•3.       Identify and make recommendations to the Executive Director on the key issues effecting South Asian youth today.

•4.       Participate in advisory and team meetings.

•5.       Serves as member of the management team of Social Services Network.

•6.       Monitor regional youth programs and modify or develop new programs as necessary and ensure that Social Services Network maintains its competitive edge.

•7.       Develop effective youth engagement strategies.

•8.       Monitor and prepare timely, agency required reports on program budgets, services provided and number of youth volunteers recruited and maintaining fiscal accountability.

•9.       Responsible for preparing all written reports and grant proposals as requested.

•10.   Responsible for preparing program related educational, outreach and promotional materials.

•11.   Ensure that the youth program based databases maintained at SSN and website information is current.

•12.   Ensure that all time sheets for all program based hours are correctly documented and reported.

•13.   Responsible to interface with SSN clients, visitors, and vendors.

•14.   Perform other duties as may be assigned.

•15.   Participate in continuous training programs and remain current in area of social service delivery to youths

QUALIFICATIONS:

       Bachelor's degree in a related field plus two - three years project coordination  experience in Child, Youth and Mental Health.

       Strong organizational and ability to multi-task.

       Demonstrated leadership, facilitation, presentational and writing skills.

     Familiarity with key health and social services in the York Region as they might pertain to youth.

       Must respect all confidential information.

        Demonstrated experience working with South Asian youth and knowledgeable of the experiences and issues facing this diverse population.

       Strong oral communication skills; excellent interpersonal communication skills.

   Strong skill set in Microsoft Office suite specifically Microsoft Word, Power Point and Excel; Competent with email and internet search engines.

      Ability to speak one or more South Asian languages considered an asset.

•     Must be able to work within a multi-disciplinary team, in a multi-cultural /multi-lingual environment and take direction from the Executive Director.

Reports To: Executive Director

Salary - $30,000

Position Type - Full time but negotiable depending on level of experience.
